How to gift a community and group subscriptions to a member.

Gift Subscription Overview

You may have members in your network, like admins (you!), creators, or key contributors who you wish to have access to the network without having to be a paying member. For these members, you can "gift" them a community subscription product and/or any number of group subscription products.

When a subscription is gifted to the member, it creates a $0 subscription that includes a subscription period (start and end date) and will renew for $0 when the subscription period is over.

Members with gifted subscriptions can see these subscriptions in their Settings > Subscriptions area, including the cost of $0.

Prerequisites for Gifting a Subscription Product

A few things need to be in place for you to gift a subscription to a member;

  1. The Paid Subscriptions addon has been added to your network
    Read: "Subscriptions: Getting Started"

  2. You have connected your Stripe account to your Honeycommb network

  3. You must have active subscription products
    Note: "Subscriptions" does not have to be activated for your members for you to gift subscriptions.

How to Gift a Subscription Product to a Member

  1. Go to the "Members" area to find the member you want to gift a subscription to. Click on the member in the table to go to their Member View.

  2. Once at the Member's View page, click the "Member Billing" tab. In this view, you will see an area called "Subscriptions".

  3. Click on the ••• button to the far right of the "Subscriptions" label, and click on the "Gift Subscription" option. This will open up an area on the right with controls to gift a subscription.

  4. Select the subscription product you wish to give the member in the "Subscription" drop-down menu.

  5. If you wish to set an expiration date on the subscription, click into the "Expiration" field and select a date. Leave blank if you do not want to set an expiration.

  6. You can gift a member only one community subscription product, but you can gift them as many group subscription products as you want. To gift them another subscription, follow steps 3-5 again.

How to Cancel or Delete a Gifted Subscription

Just like any other subscription, you can cancel or delete a member's subscription.

Cancel = do not renew the subscription after the current subscription period is over.

Delete = remove the subscription, and what it gives access to, immediately.

  1. In the "Member Billing" tab in the Member's View page, scroll down to the "Subscriptions" area. Next to the subscription you want to cancel or delete, you will see a ••• button.

  2. Click in the ••• button and select either "Cancel" or "Delete"

  3. For either selection, you will be prompted to confirm your action. Confirm the action and cancellation or deletion will happen immediately.
