Group Subscription Products Overview

A group subscription product is a paid (recurring) subscription that grants members access to a group(s). Members can subscribe and unsubscribe to these products on their own.

Members are automatically added to the group when they subscribe to the group subscription. A member can be subscribed to as many group subscription products as the network offers. You add one or many premium groups to a single Group Subscription Product.

For a Group to be included in a Group Subscription Product they should be created as a "Premium" group (read: Groups: Create & Edit"). Members can view premium groups in the group directory to learn of the group subscription product (paywall).

Creating a Group Subscription Product

Once you've decided what you want to offer your community through group or community subscription products, creating a Group Subscription Product is simple. You can make changes to these products later by adding features (but not removing them), so consider the products and pricing before offering them to members.

  1. Create Premium Groups

You first need groups to put in your Group Subscription Products. Groups are defined by type. It's important you create "Premium" (type) groups for groups that you want to add to group subscription products. (Read: "Groups: Create & Edit")

  2. Create a new group subscription product

In your Control Center, go to: Subscriptions > Subscription Products, click the "Create New Subscription" button, and select "Group Subscription".

  3. Group Product Name

This will be used throughout your network in selling and members managing their subscriptions. Make sure it makes sense amongst other subscription products so that they're easy to find and manage.

  4. Group Product Description

This will be used to describe and express the value of your group subscription product in product lists and product views.

  5. Group Product Art/icon

Used in product lists and in the shopping cart experience to identify the product. Must be square format. 1024px X 1024px is a great size.

  6. Group Product Media

Used in the product view to help sell your subscription product. We recommend using a video to effectively communicate and sell your product. A square format is a great size. You can easily create a square video using your phones on board video camera.

  7. Group Product Free Trial

Turn the toggle on to activate the field where you enter how many free trial days you would like to offer. Note that members will be prompted to put in their credit card information so that when the free trial is over they will be automatically charged and retain their access to the group. Members can self-manage their subscriptions (cancel, upgrade, downgrade).

  8. Group Product Pricing Plans

To activate your group product and offer it to your members it must have at least one pricing plan, either weekly, and/or monthly, and/or yearly.

To add a pricing pan, click the "+ Add Recurring Plan" button, and select either Weekly, Monthly, or Annually. This will create a row for the recurring plan. Enter the amount you want to sell the subscription for based on the recurring plan (currency is based on your Stripe default currency).

  9. Add the premium group(s) to the product

In the "Subscription Product Features & Benefits" section you will see "Premium Group Access". Click on the "+ Premium Group" button. Search by name or select form the list of groups the Premium Group you want to add the group subscription product. You can add one group or any number of groups you want included in the product.

  10. Activate your group subscription product

Once you have all the group subscription product requirements completed, you can now click the "Activate Product" button on the top right of the page. Note that you can preview how the product will be presented in web and mobile applications by clicking the "Preview" Button.

Note that activated subscription products won't be available to your community until the subscription feature itself is activated in your network.
