New Member Welcome Email

This articles outlines how the New Member Welcome Email is triggered and how to customize the message in the email.

Updated over 9 months ago

By default, Honeycommb networks send a transactional (automated) email to every new, approved (private networks) member that successfully registers. Network admins can customize this feature In the Onboarding section of the Control Center.

Sending

Public "Open" Networks

The New Member Welcome Email is sent to members once they've successfully completed registration by creating a username and password, the last step in registration after email confirmation.

Closed "Private" Networks

The New Member Welcome Email is sent to a member once an administrator of the network approves the member's registration.

Members Created in Control Center

The New Member Welcome Email is sent once the administrator successfully creates the member in Control Center.
โ€‹Note: The custom welcome message will not be included the Welcome Email to members that are created via Control Center.

Turning Off the New Member Welcome Email

Some networks may choose to turn off the transactional New Member Welcome Email and send their own custom "Welcome Email" for ultimate control. To do this;

  • Go to Control Center > Community Settings > Onboarding

  • Scroll to the "Welcome Email" section and turn off ("on" by default) the "Send automated "Welcome" email".

That's it. We suggest using Honeycommb Webhooks "User Created" or "User Approved" + Zapier and your email service provider to send your own automated "Welcome Email".

Including a Custom Message in the New Member Welcome Email

Include a custom welcome message in the New Member Welcome Email. This is a great way to create expectations, set community guidelines, and to introduce community admins. The message is carriage return, emoji, and link-friendly.

To include a custom message in the Welcome email;

  • Go to; Control Center > Community Settings > Onboarding

  • Scroll to the "Welcome Email" section and turn on (off by default) the "Include welcome message" toggle.

  • Include your custom message in the input field. You can include carriage returns, emojis, and links.

  • You can preview the email by clicking the "Preview email with Welcome Message" link in the left instructions area.

  • Click the "Save Changes" button to commit your changes. New members will now receive a Welcome Email that includes your custom welcome message.
