How to shares images, videos, and files in direct messaging conversations.

Updated over a week ago

Real-time direct messaging comes with every Honeycommb network, although admins can choose to turn the feature off completely (Control Center > Features Settings > Direct Messaging Model = Off).

Direct messaging allows members to create private, real-time conversations with a single member or a group of members in the network. The conversation can include text, links, images, videos, and files.

Sharing an Image or Video

In the text input field, click the "+" button. This will show a selection menu where the user can choose from "Image or video", and "Share a file". Clicking the "Image or video" option will open the device's file selection window.

  • Only one image or video can be shared at a time

  • Text can be included with the image or video

  • There is no size limit on images or video but note that the larger the file the longer it will take to be available.

The image or video will preview in the input field, and can be removed, before being sent into the conversation stream. The image or video will be published to the stream once submitted (submit button or "return").

Sharing a File

Sharing a file to the conversation is much like sharing an image or video. Instead, a member will select "Share a file" option.

  • Only one file can be shared at a time

  • Text can be included with the file

  • There is no file size limit

  • The file is scanned for viruses before being made available in the conversation

The file will preview in the input field, and can be removed, before being sent into the conversation stream. The image or video will be published to the stream once submitted (submit button or "return").
