Understanding and Managing Your Network's Terms of Service

Updated over a week ago

How Your Initial Terms of Service is Created

When you create a new network on the Honeycommb platform, it automatically includes a pre-populated Terms of Service (ToS) policy. This default policy covers standard terms for operating a social network, ensuring basic legal protections for both you and your members. The name of your network, as specified in the Control Center under Community Settings > General, is automatically incorporated into this initial policy.

Creating a New Terms of Service Policy

As a network owner or admin, you can create a custom Terms of Service policy that aligns with the specific needs of your network and business operations. If you choose to create a new policy, consider the following steps:

  1. Evaluate Your Needs – Review the standard ToS and identify any areas that require modification based on how your network operates.

  2. Consult a Legal Expert – It may make sense to work with a lawyer to ensure your updated policy complies with applicable laws and best practices.

  3. Draft Your New Terms – Clearly outline the rules, guidelines, and legal agreements that members must adhere to.

  4. Create a new Terms of Service Policy – Once finalized, go to your Control Center > Community Settings > Terms & Policies and "+ New Terms of Service" button. Insert your new Terms of Service into the open text field and save.

What Happens When You Create a New Terms of Service

If you publish a new Terms of Service policy, any existing members will be required to agree to the updated terms when they next access the network. Until they accept the new terms, they may be restricted from full participation in your community.

This process ensures that all members are aware of and consent to the latest policies governing your network.
